Parallel & Radial Cable Cranes.

Covering a huge surface

Whilst standard cable cranes have the aim to bring goods from one point to a designated point or unload the good somewhere along a fixed track, the parallel and radial cranes cover a wider surface. The basic principle that loads are lifted up on a cable is the same, but the construction-system of a parallel crane is different

Construction of a parallel crane

A parallel crane consists out of two towers, which are maneuverable simultaneously. The towers are fixed in rails and weighted, to assure safety. Between the two towers is fixed the track rope.
The carriage on the track rope can be moved through a winch positioned next to the towers. Another winch, positioned as well next the towers is moving the loading rope – running through the carriage. This way – using a carriage without own engine, but using a powerful winch positioned next the tower much a much higher payload and speed can be achieved.

With a parallel crane it is possible to achieve an outreach speed of 6 m/s, a hoist speed of 3 m/s for a payload of 28 to. Span-length and consequently the reachable surface are very variable. Traverse paths of 280 m are realistic.

The radial crane

A radial crane is based on the same principle of a parallel crane and has the same purpose: load and unload goods with highest precision on a wide surface.
The difference to parallel crane is, that only one tower is maneuverable, whilst the other tower is fixed. This solution is applied especially if one side of the construction field has limited space.

Usage of parallel cranes and radial cranes

Parallel or radial cranes are generally set up over a construction field, where conventional machines are not able to access – e.g. over a river, a strait or a valley.

These types of cable cranes are used mostly at dam and bridge constructions as well as for loading and unloading sites of boats over rivers, because they allow unloading goods not only on a fixed track, but the possibility to move and carry goods along 3 axes, permit to deliver goods with a highest precision to the designated point on the wide construction surface.
