Hydro power plant Obere Sill

Powerful cable crane system for the construction of a penstock next to the Europa Bridge.

• A powerful LCS cable crane system was installed for the restoration of a penstock near Innsbruck, Austria, which was located directly under the famous Europa Bridge, one of the largest bridges in Europe.
  
  The system was required for the renovation of the surge chamber, shafts and the penstock of the hydro power plant Obere Sill. The operator was able to observe the complete route via a video control system. About halfway, the cable crane system made a 12° turn – exactly above a bend in the penstock. This made it possible to position the pipes along the entire track with the utmost precision.
  
  The design of the system needed to be highly adapted to the location, as there was limited space in general, being situated under a bridge, and taking into consideration the surge chamber which needed to be passed over, a street that needed to be crossed and several shafts that were running underground. All these factors had to be taken into account, for example, when planning the towers and anchors.
