Mining shaft Tasmania

Rescue winch for a 500 m deep vertical mining shaft.

  • LCS has designed, developed and produced a special shaft winch for an underground mine in Tasmania (AUS). The winch is designed as rescue winch for a 500 m deep vertical rescue shaft in order to evacuate personnel in a short-time period with the help of a rescue cabin. The winch complies with the strict safety requirements of Australian Standards in addition to various international standards and directives, such as extracts from the EU ropeway directive. Therefore, the electro-hydraulic winch has numerous safety features, such as safety brakes via hydraulically controlled disc brakes (two per side) acting directly onto the drum. The rope of the winch is additionally secured by a high number of rope end fixing points. Another safety feature is the redundant valve design, so that – in the unlikely event of a component failure – a second valve can always take over.
