Penstock Bjølvo

Dismantling of an over 70 year old penstock in Norway.

  • After the hydro power plant in Ålvik, Norway was renovated in 2004 and the entire pipeline system was laid underground, it was now time to dismantle the penstock, which was over 70 years old and no longer needed. The penstock ran over a very steep mountain slope.

To arrange the dismantling as uncomplicated and efficient as possible, LCS designed and installed a cable crane system which was located directly above the penstock. In this way the pipes could be transported safely and efficiently in the steep terrain. Furthermore, the system was equipped with three cameras to monitor the entire track and thus guarantee complete safety.
